About

Sustainable Education is a team within Cornell University Sustainable Design focused on projects relating to global education. Starting in 2009 with Schoolhouse South Africa, SE has worked in South Africa, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Ghana. We aim to utilize human-centered design to work with stakeholders, primarily non-profit organizations, to consult on architectural design, sustainability analysis, engineering, and branding. Our partners include Cornell University Systems Engineering and TetraTech, Inc.

Our Mission

"To provide equitable opportunities for education through designing sustainable learning environments using a human-centered approach."

History

Sustainable Education has worked on six international projects in the past ten years.

"At its core, Sustainable Education is a multidisciplinary design organization. We are dedicated to working alongside non-profits to design sustainably and systematically minded educational architecture. We challenge the typical nonprofit approach of simplistic and frugal design while keeping local means in mind. Above all, we consider programming for the ultimate users — students — no matter where they are in the world."
